• Bloom Science names top biotechnology executive, Dr. Grace E. Colón, Board Chair. Bloom Science, Inc., a clinical-stage, central nervous system (CNS) company focused on discovering and developing breakthrough therapeutics that target the Gut-Brain Axis, announced the appointment of Dr. Grace E. Colón as Chair of its Board of Directors.

• The first CRISPR-edited salad is here: This month, North Carolina–based Pairwise is rolling out a new type of mustard greens engineered to be less bitter than the original plant. The vegetable is the first Crispr-edited food to hit the US market.

• LabGenius debuts T-cell engager optimization capability that yields molecules with >400-fold tumor-killing selectivity versus clinical benchmark. The results represent a significant milestone for LabGenius, and for the use of Machine Learning in drug discovery, because they clearly demonstrates the technology’s ability to accelerate the discovery of highly targeted molecules that could alleviate the toxic side effects associated with existing immunotherapies. 

• New method uses engineered bacteria and AI to sense and record environmental signals. Columbia synthetic biologists are the first to engineer bacterial swarm patterns to visibly record the environment, and use deep learning to decode patterns. Applications could range from monitoring environmental pollution to building living materials.
