Hi ,

There is a lot of excitement in the air about how fast synthetic biology is scaling. This week, we are highlighting some companies working to transform our food: from Arzeda, who is manufacturing a healthy protein-based sweetener, to others in the space working on cell-culture seafood alternatives and even meat made from recycled air that could help power long-term space expeditions. But are we moving fast enough? Keep reading to find out!

The state of synthetic biology: Fast but not fast enough. Absci’s synthetic biology guru talks about the industry’s beginnings, the hope versus the hype, and why he’s still so optimistic about it all.
Check out Proto.life’s newsletter, if you haven’t already. Founded by Jane Metcalfe, who will be coming to SynBioBeta 2023, their beat includes the latest research and developments from neuroscience, genetics, longevity, and the microbiome.
Vedanta Biosciences raises $106.5M for microbiome therapy. Vedanta Biosciences is leading the development of a potential new category of oral therapies based on defined consortia of bacteria isolated from the human microbiome and grown from pure clonal cell banks.
Six synthetic biology companies that have made a mark: The consequences of the climate crisis, coupled with soil degradation and its impact on food and water security, seem dire. Yet, as ambitious as it may sound, synthetic biology companies could alleviate some of the environmental burdens that the planet faces.
Capra Biosciences Raises $1.8M in Pre-Seed Round for Renewable Chemical Innovations. Capra will use the funding to advance and scale their continuous-flow bioreactor technology to make sustainable petrochemical replacements more affordable.
