Hi ,
Imagine your clothes, workout apparel, and even your perfume were made from literal air - and for that matter, from greenhouse gases. Well, you don’t have to dream about it because it is already possible: LanzaTech is showing the world a new way to create materials and chemicals from captured carbon emissions. With biology, we can reimagine entire industries, reduce the environmental burden of consumption, and develop new innovative solutions, like plant-based silk made without traditional farming practices. So enjoy this week’s selection of synbio news, brought to you by LanzaTech. |

On this episode of GEN Live, Shelby Newsad, PhD, Investor at the Venture Capital firm Compound, and I join GEN for a broad discussion on the state of synbio—where the field is now and where it’s heading. We’ll also preview the SynBioBeta meeting in May in Oakland, CA—including agenda highlights, the most anticipated talks, and the companies most likely to be breaking big news!

Coty/Gucci announced the world’s first globally distributed fragrance made with 100% carbon emissions-derived ethanol from LanzaTech’s process. Last year LanzaTech announced a partnership with Coty and they made a pledge to incorporate 100% carbon emissions derived ethanol into all of their fragrances in 2023, so this is a big milestone in working toward that goal.
