How have attitudes to cultured meat changed over the last ten years?

View in Browser »

Hi ,

Ten years ago, my mom thought cultured meat had a yuck factor. But now she's willing to try it. It's really interesting to see how consumer perceptions are continuing to change in this fast-growing field. We discussed this recently at SynBioBeta 2022 on the panel ‘Culture and Cultured Meat: is the world ready for cell-to-table?’ This was a Leaps Talk featuring Chef JJ Johnson, founder, TV personality, and author, Niya Gupta, Co-founder and CEO of Fork & Good, and Amy Webb, CEO of The Future Today Institute.

European Bioeconomy Zoom, July 7th at 4pm BST/ 8 am PT. SynBioBeta will be in London July 20-21 for our European Thought Leader Summit. The European bioeconomy is taking off! But how do you know where it's headed? Where are opportunities emerging, what partnerships are forming, which trends are growing, and what challenges can we solve together? Join John Cumbers and Fiona Mischel for a live Zoom, July 7th 4pm BST/ 8 am PT with European leaders including Richard Kitney from SynbiCITE / Imperial College, and Orr Yarkoni from Colorifix, which recently closed an £18m series B Led by H&M.

In other news, Arzeda has been investing and funding a new Open Source initiative, OpenFold, to develop and democratize machine learning approaches to protein structure prediction and design. This has been pioneered by AlphaFold and UW’s RoseTTAFold, but none of these tools are truly open source, and they all have some limitations. OpenFold's vision is to really make the source code open and useful for the community.

What if you could grow anything? Ginkgo Bioworks believes that growing the alternative food proteins, vaccine ingredients, biodegradable plastics, sustainable chemicals, and all the other ideas you’re dreaming up should be easier! If you couldn't make it to SynBioBeta this year, check out this keynote address by Ginkgo Bioworks CEO Jason Kelly.

We hope you can join us next year for SynBioBeta in Oakland, CA, May 23-25, 2023. Register now!
