Hi ,
We hope this finds you well. It snowed ~ 13" last night here in Boulder, CO… so very much looking forward to some warmer weather and seeing you all in April at the Built With Biology (live) conference!
If you missed last week’s "Digital Genome Engineering: Unlocking the Potential of Synthetic Biology" symposium (brought to you by Inscripta®), key industry leaders shared valuable insights on how you can
create a successful research workflow. Attendees also got to learn about one of the most powerful innovations in genome engineering - the Onyx® platform. If you missed it or want to review some of the sessions, it’s available here.
Finally, as our April conference is rapidly approaching, we encourage you to follow us on Twitter,LinkedIn,Instagram, and Facebook… as it’s there that we’ll be publishing important updates including new speakers, our show schedule, and networking/press opportunities.
Thanks for reading, stay warm, and see you in April!

Deceptively Mild
|
"Mild" is yet another example of the ineffective narratives that have prolonged this pandemic. The word "mild" obscures the fact that this version of the virus is comparable to the original variant - the one that shut down countries and economies for months. And as a result, people are making decisions about their personal safety and the safety of their communities without all the necessary data.
Had we been able to tell the story of the pandemic simply and well, we may never have encountered Omicron. If we had examined our assumptions and used primary sources to make our decisions, we would have known that masks were the best course of action from the start. If we had gathered insights from decades of research that outline the danger of shame tactics and the importance of public health approaches that meet people where they are, our vaccination rates might be much higher. If we had told this story so that every person fighting it felt like a hero for doing their part, we could have united together against a common enemy and protected those that could not protect themselves.
Stories matter more than we ever imagined. In the largest public health crisis of our time, experts in communication are struggling to effectively communicate about matters of life and death. The scientific community, including Built with Biology, has the opportunity to learn from this moment, embracing narrative as a
core component of our work, and an essential element of a successful business strategy. We invite you to join us at our Built With Biology Conference scheduled for April 12-14, 2022 (Oakland, CA), as we convene live and (together) work to refine these stories… creating awareness and excitement for a future Built With Biology.

Spotlight on: Blackrock Neurotech |
|
The human brain is far more complex than our most advanced supercomputers. But what happens when our neural circuits are damaged beyond repair? Meet Blackrock Neurotech, a
company building innovative brain technologies that restore function to people with neurological disorders. One of their interfaces, an implanted microarray chip in the brain, enables paralyzed patients to move external devices like a computer or robotic arm using just their thoughts. The company plans to commercialize this device in 2022, with a cost equivalent to that of a cardiac pacemaker or cochlear implant, in hopes of serving a much wider patient population. Learn more about how Blackrock Neurotech is restoring independence to patients and what other brain disorders neurotech could empower next!
