Hi ,

We hope this email finds you all well.

The last few days have been busy, as the SynBioBeta team has attended a number of exciting live events around the country. For further details, please see our Event Roundup below.

As we move into the busy holiday season, we encourage you all to review your calendars, as our January Built with Biology conference is just around the corner (Jan 25-27, Oakland, CA).

We would very much like to have you all attend, as we look forward to celebrating your accomplishments over the last 20 months and an opportunity to visit with you in person!

Warm regards,

Larry

Event Roundup

These past few days have been a whirlwind, as we at SynBioBeta attended the Ginkgo Ferment event in Boston last week, were in Vancouver, WA yesterday celebrating the grand opening of Absci’s new laboratory, and are now busily preparing for our Chemicals and Materials conference on November 17.

While events in and of themselves are productive from an industry knowledge standpoint, the thing that stands out (to me personally) is the opportunity to actually get together LIVE with the people and companies who are using biology to make the world a better place. Just being in the same room with thought leaders like Jason Kelly and the Ginkgo founding team, hearing Sean McClain talk about launching Absci from his parents’ basement, or listening to industry pundits like Cathie Wood and Tom Knight talk about the trends shaping the future of biotechnology proved an exercise in inspiration… all while getting to drink coffee and exchange business cards with friends we may not have seen in nearly two years now.

Important to note: we were excited to learn more about Ginkgo’s new "Cell Development Kit" (CDK), as it should prove a game-changer for developers working to more quickly and effectively grow proteins and enzymes. If this sounds exciting to you (as it does for us!), please sign up for Ginkgo’s (free) webinar here.

Looking forward, SynBioBeta is excited to host our own spate of events over the next 90 days. We invite you as readers to consider attending:

  • Our Chemicals and Materials event on November 17, wherein we plan to provide engaging content from leading companies like Berkeley Lights, Ginkgo Bioworks, Solugen, Inscripta, Twist Bioscience, Checkerspot, BCG, and LanzaTech.
  • The SynBioBeta "Built with Biology" live event on January 25-27, 2022, in Oakland, CA. In addition to main-stage presentations from folks like Pat Brown of Impossible Foods, Nobel Prize Winner Frances Arnold, and noted biotech investor Cathie Wood, we will stage our inaugural Race Against the Clock, the bio community’s largest "welcome party" where we will host ~ 500 students and start-ups, all of whom are using biology to change how we feed, fuel, and heal the world.

In summary, whether you plan to attend one or both of these SynBioBeta events, we are excited to host you and look forward to an opportunity to network, celebrate the noteworthy accomplishments over the past 19 months, and meet some of the bioeconomy’s "Gonna Be’s" looking to change the world through biology. And if you plan to attend SBB 2021 in Oakland, we encourage you to book your hotel room early, as our special Marriott City Center rates expire soon!

For more information, please feel free to contact us via info@synbiobeta.com.

Thanks for your consideration and we look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Larry

Spotlight on: Helaina

After we’re born, we receive important nutrients and immune support from the proteins in breast milk. But many babies aren’t able to receive this critical protection. Not all women can breastfeed and not all babies are raised by their birth moms. Meet Helaina, a company working to democratize access to essential nutrients for all babies. Using precision fermentation, the company has created a baby formula containing the essential proteins in breast milk. Helaina is committed to ending stigmas associated with breastfeeding and giving parents the support they need to raise healthy, thriving children. Learn more about Helaina’s inspiring work!

Spotlight on: Eagle Genomics

It’s clear that our microbiomes, the collection of microorganisms living naturally in our bodies and the environment, plays a significant role in our health. Now, many companies are making foods, personal care products and medicines to positively support your microbiome. But how can you tell if these products do what they claim? Meet Eagle Genomics, the B2B software company transforming microbiome science and technology. The company is helping improve the microbiomes of farm animals and agricultural soil, and is supporting the development of microbiome-friendly foods and products. For example, one key collaboration is an oral microbiome-supporting toothpaste!

Spotlight on: Light Bio

Imagine your home filled with the peaceful glow of bioluminescent plants. Until recently, living light could only be found in fantasy worlds like Avatar. But now, the plant biology company, Light Bio, has created the world’s first bioluminescent plants for homes and gardens. These plants aim to bring the tranquility and magic of living light into people’s everyday lives. You can experience the world’s first exhibition of bioluminescent ornamental plants at SynBioBeta and follow them on Twitter.

Book your hotel room for the event at special rates!
