A brighter future… built with biology
Hi ,

This week, we bring you news that SynBioBeta is a GO for our live, in-person event, this Oct 4-6th. We are also launching our brand new Built with Biology podcast, and much more!

Thank you to this week’s sponsor LanzaTech, who believe in harnessing the power of synthetic biology, and big data to create a CarbonSmart world where biotechnology enables a new circular carbon economy. LanzaTech is working with Unilever, Mibelle, L’Oréal, COTY, and Lululemon to bring packaging, perfume, laundry detergent, apparel, and household cleaners into our homes.

In follow up to last week's message from Frank Tate, CEO of SynBioBeta, we are thrilled to announce that we will host our SynBioBeta live conference this October 4-6 in Oakland, CA!

We have conducted extensive research over the past week, spoken to a bevy of industry experts and consulted with the City of Oakland. Based on their feedback, we at SynBioBeta believe that by closely adhering to all CDC guidelines for “safe events” (proof of vaccination, negative COVID test within 72 hours, masks required indoor/outdoor, etc.), we can stage this live event safely and effectively. Rest assured, these guidelines will be clearly communicated to all attendees.

We are excited to get everyone together to brainstorm on solutions to the world’s greatest challenges and to celebrate the amazing progress made over the past 18 months! So grab your tickets, get your hotel booked and we look forward to seeing you in October to Build Back Better with Biology!

Launching the Built with Biology Podcast!
I'm very excited to share our inaugural Built with Biology Podcast episode, where I speak with James Diggans, Head of Biosecurity at Twist Bioscience. What is biosecurity, why does it matter, and how could it impact your day-to-day life? Get all your questions answered and more!

Science News
  • Imperial researchers have created 3D building blocks that can heal themselves in response to damage. The engineered living materials (ELMs) exploit biology’s ability to heal and replenish material and could respond to damage in harsh environments using a sense-and-response system.
  • Huue, a company using a bio-based approach to making more environmentally-friendly indigo dye, is the first small startup to sign up with Ginkgo Bioworks' automated synthetic biology platform.
  • Company founded by MIT alumnus lets anyone run DNA experiments: MiniPCR bio has sold thousands of its inexpensive polymerase chain reaction machines to researchers and schools around the world.
  • Researchers have modified a common bacterium to spit out an entire rainbow of dyes for food, clothing, cosmetics, and more.
