News, trends, and stories from the synthetic biology industry
Hi ,

Today is the day! Our Biopharma event starts at 8am PST. You still have a chance to join and be a part of the conversations that are shaping the future of biopharma in a post-COVID world. Click here and join the event now!

Early Bird Tickets Launch Next Week!
We’ve also negotiated a special deal with the Oakland Marriott City Center so that your networking can start early and end late. There are a limited number of discounted rooms available so we suggest booking your room ASAP! Click here to make your reservation.
The Built with Biology Clubhouse is moving to Twitter Spaces!

Thank you to everyone who has sent us feedback about Clubhouse. We’ve heard that the platform isn’t accessible enough that it’s limited to those who can get an invite. We want to build an inclusive community, not an exclusive one. So next week, we’re moving the show to Twitter Spaces!

After our Biopharma event, our Built with Biology show on Wednesday, June 2nd will be on Spaces. Spaces is also an audio-only platform but all you need is a Twitter handle and the Twitter app on your phone. Click here to save next week's show on your phone!

Next week, we’re excited to welcome to the show:

(Spaces will be available on desktop shortly)

This Company Is Freeing Manufacturers From Petrochemicals With Biology
Today, entire industries still depend on fossil fuels and their derivative materials, petrochemicals. But the clean energy and sustainable products movement is starting to change how companies source their raw materials. Now, bioengineering startup Origin.Bio plans to free manufacturers from their petrochemical dependency by co-designing with nature to create more sustainable products.

Building a New Era of Biotechnology Through Collaboration
We have entered a new era of biotechnology where collaboration is the key to success. By breaking down silos across the industry, we are advancing science and making it more accessible. A new partnership between Berkeley Lights, a digital cell biology company, and Genovac, an antibody discovery company, exemplifies how industry collaboration can find elusive answers to some of the biggest problems in antibody therapy.

  • The biosciences, including biotechnology, will play a pivotal role in the fight against climate change. It is already leading the way on several fronts, writes Michelle McMurry-Heath, the president and CEO of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization.
  • The biorevolution is kicking off. Its potential cannot be reached without global collaboration, including at a political level. Regulation is desperately required to both allow for and speed up scientific progress in this area.
Funding News
  • Eat Just, a San Francisco-based maker of plant-based egg products, raised $170 million in new funding to help expand its cell-based meat subsidiary, GOOD Meat.
  • According to a BCG report, it is not yet clear which new deep tech ventures are most likely to succeed, which investments will yield the greatest returns, or how rapidly their promise will be realized.
